Palmerston woman dies days after alleged domestic assault

A woman has died in hospital just over a week after she was allegedly assaulted by a man known to her in Palmerston. Read the latest.

A woman has died in hospital just over a week after she was allegedly assaulted by a man known to her in Palmerston.

Neighbours reported sounds of an alleged domestic violence disturbance at a house in Johnston about 8pm on May 21, and rendered assistance until emergency services arrived.

The 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to the Palmerston Watch House and on May 26 appeared in the Darwin Local Court charged with aggravated assault.

The 22-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition and has since died with investigations still continuing into the cause.

The Major Crime Unit is continuing investigations and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
