Only 35 per cent of NT’s CatholicCare workers register as fully vaccinated

New figures show just one third of an aged care provider’s workforce have registered themselves as fully vaccinated, after fears any worker not jabbed would lose their job in a month.

CATHOLICCARE NT has sought to downplay fears some staff will lose their jobs on November 1 if they’re not vaccinated.

The care provider has also revealed to the NT News that only 89 of its 254 staff have officially registered themselves as fully vaccinated.

Media reports on Tuesday morning suggested a letter had been sent out by CatholicCare urging workers to get the Covid-19 vaccine, or risk losing their job come November 1.

But CatholicCare workforce and partnership general manager Phil Brown said this wasn’t the intent of the letter, and legislation prevented the provider from sacking anyone on vaccination status.

“No one’s gonna lose their job,” Mr Brown said.

Catholic Care NT Jayne Lloyd sent out the memo.

“Our director did send out an office memorandum to all staff, and it came from the announcement by the NT government that 80 per cent vaccination target by November 2021.”

Under the NT government’s guidelines, any worker dealing with people vulnerable to Covid-19 will be mandated to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

But legislation to support this hasn’t been put into law yet.

“In (Jayne Lloyd’s) memo … she just put in there that we are working towards a deadline of the first of November,” Mr Brown.

He said 89 of the 254 staff employed by CatholicCare NT had told their employer they were fully vaccinated.

By Mr Brown said many other workers were vaccinated but had not yet submitted their certificates with CatholicCare.

“We know that some people don’t want to give us their certificates … but have been vaccinated,” he said.

“More staff are now starting to produce their certificates.”
