Two Top End mums are about to launch a parenting podcast like nothing else on the market.

Mums Gone Troppo, a weekly chat with two fixtures of the NT media landscape in Channel 9 news director Kathleen Gazzola and former NT News reporter Molly Upstill.

The idea for the new venture was born out of noticing a gaping hole in the market for stories by Territory women in podcast.

“Kathleen and I have kids the same age, we have experience in the media and most importantly we love where we live and we don’t think enough people are talking about the amazing women and mums in our communities,” Mrs Upstill said.

“There are so many women doing incredible things in our community, and we want to make sure they have a platform to tell their stories, so that’s where the idea from a podcast stemmed from.”

The first episode is due to drop on Wednesday March 8, International Women’s Day, and will feature fellow media mogul Katie Woolf from Mixx 104.9.

“Our second episode is with local comedian Amy Hetherington and we have a number of other prominent guests lined up but Territorians will have to tune in to find out who they are,” Mrs Upstill said.

She said each episode would be an in-depth look into some specific issues only Territory parents face, with a light-hearted view on managing mango madness with kids.

“The heat is definitely something to contend with, whether you’re pregnant or with a baby or toddler,” she said.

“The build up can be particularly challenging and certainly contributes to many moments of mango madness which we discuss a lot with every guest.”

It will also look into how raising children in the NT differs from anywhere else in the country.

“The Territory provides a particular freedom to raising kids than other states do — the laidback lifestyle means kids are resilient and carefree, which seems to be a common theme with some of the guests we have already interviewed,” Mrs Upstill said.

Mums Gone Troppo can be found on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, and on social media platforms Facebook, and Instagram.
