NT declares all of Victoria a Covid-19 hotspot

The Northern Territory has declared all of regional Victoria a hotspot on the advice of the Chief Health Officer Hugh Heggie.

UPDATED FRIDAY: THE Northern Territory has declared all of regional Victoria a hotspot.

Police Minister Nicole Mansion said the decision was taken after advice from the chief health officer Dr Hugh Heggie.

“As of 5pm (Friday), the Northern Territory will be declaring all our regional Victoria a hotspot,” Ms Manison said.

“I know this will be really difficult for some people that were hoping to come to the Northern Territory from regional Victoria, but this is about making sure we keep the people in the Northern Territory safe and keep Covid out of the Northern Territory.”

EARLIER: VICTORIAN local government areas Moorabool and the Macedon Ranges have been declared Covid-19 hotspots by the Northern Territory.

The declarations are effective from 5pm Wednesday.

People from the Shire of Moorabool LGA or the Shire of Macedon Ranges LGA with an approved exemption to travel to the NT and who arrive after 5pm on Wednesday will be required to undertake mandatory supervised quarantine at the Alice Springs or Howard Springs quarantine facilities.

A testing direction remains in place for anyone who arrives in the NT from other areas of regional Victoria.

The person is required to travel directly to a suitable place, self-isolate and get tested for Covid-19. They must remain in isolation until a negative test is returned and monitor for symptoms.
