Opportunities for bilateral trade and investment across workforce, education, agribusiness and energy will be explored by a Territory trade delegation to Malaysia this week.
The delegation is led by Trade, Business and Asian Relations Minister Robyn Cahill.
The trip also coincides with the start of a new AirAsia Malaysia non-stop service between Kuala Lumpur and Darwin, due to land in Darwin on Friday.
Minister Cahill said the trade mission will strengthen government-to-government ties and promote new trade and investment opportunities for the Northern Territory.
“Building stronger relationships with our Asian neighbours is part of the CLP Government’s plan to rebuild the economy and make the Northern Territory the best place in Australia to do business,” Minister Cahill said.
“The Northern Territory and Malaysia share many similarities in that we are both rich in natural resources, are focused on building diverse and resilient skilled workforces, and committed to economic transformation.
“We will continue to collaborate to unlock new trade and investment opportunities and realise the full economic potential across priority sectors in both the Northern Territory and Malaysia.”
The NT government said the estimated total cost for the Minister and an adviser is approximately $13,000. Final costs will be reported following the trip, in line with standard reporting processes.
