UPDATE: THE departure of a long serving tuckshop lady at the Nightcliff Primary School over the vaccination mandate will disrupt canteen operations, but not for as long as previously feared.

The NT News understands the tuckshop at Nightcliff Primary School will close on Monday November 15.

But it will reopen the day after, on the Tuesday, allaying fears that schoolkids would need to take packed lunches for the remaining five weeks of term.

Nightcliff’s principal Jo Glennon had earlier released a statement saying the departure of tuckshop worker Anna Nicolakis meant the school had been hunting for a new contractor to operate the facility.

Ms Nicolakis said she was leaving the school after seven years of service because of her objection to the NT government’s vaccination mandate.

“I can’t stress that I’m losing my job over a mandate that (Michael Gunner) has decided he wants to do,” she said.

She however denied that she was an anti-vaxxer, instead claiming she had received all her other vaccines and had concerns about the testing of the Covid-19 jab.

UPDATE: A TUCKSHOP in Darwin’s northern suburbs will close at the end of next week because its operator is refusing to comply with the NT government’s vaccine mandate.

The NT News has obtained a leaflet from Nightcliff Primary School stating that the school’s tuckshop lady Anna Nicolakis had left after seven years at the facility, and thanking her for her service.

Ms Nicolakis said she was refusing to get vaccinated against Covid-19, claiming the jab had not been properly tested.

She has attended Free in the NT rallies in the CBD in recent weeks, but denied she was anti-vaccination, saying she had received all her other vaccinations.

Ms Nicolakis said she would miss working at Nightcliff Primary, describing it as “the most beautiful school”.

“I can’t stress that I’m losing my job over a mandate that (Michael Gunner) has decided he wants to do.”

But the sudden departure has left school kids without anyone staffing the canteen, with the school principal Jo Glennon now on the hunt for a replacement.

“We have advertised for a new canteen contractor through the newspaper and schools network,” Ms Glennon wrote.

“If you know of a contractor who may be interested in applying, please forward them to our website for information.”

Ms Glennon said parents may need to pack their kids’ lunches for the remaining five weeks of the school term if a contractor cannot be found.
