Long-serving David Ritchie has stepped down as head of the NT Planning Commission, signalling a major change-up for the authority as it seeks a new boss and up to five new members.
The NT Planning Commission is an independent statutory authority which sets the strategic framework for integrated land use, transport and infrastructure planning.
Planning Minister Joshua Burgoyne said the Commission played a critical role guiding the future of land use and infrastructure planning across the Territory.
“The Commission provides planning leadership and delivers professional, independent advice to me, as the minister responsible for decisions under the Planning Act,” Mr Burgoyne said.
“The NT Planning Commission has been led for the past eight years by Chairman, Dr David Ritchie, who has made the decision to step back and allow new leadership to guide the Commission’s future work.
“Dr Ritchie’s commitment to public service and the NT community has been invaluable in ensuring that planning processes remain efficient, equitable, and considerate of all stakeholders.
“He has overseen many important projects and the preparation of land use plans which will continue to contribute to the structured development and future growth of the Territory in the years ahead.
“The new chairperson and members will have the opportunity to shape planning and development in the NT now and for generations to come.
“I sincerely thank Dr Ritchie for his commitment to the NT Planning Commission and its work and wish him well in the future.”
The government is seeking interested applicants with expertise relating to land use planning, community planning or service delivery, with expressions of interest closing on June 30.
