NT Police and fire investigators are on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

District Officer Darwin Command Eric Koomen said he commended the response of both his crews and the volunteers to swiftly extinguish the two blazes.

“The efficient response ensured the fires did not spread to the surrounding bushland and rural properties,” he said.

“We are now in the peak fire danger period in the Top End.

“Yesterday’s fire is a timely reminder for landholders to manage risks on their property such as preparing firebreaks around structures, stationary machinery and vehicles and anything else you don’t want to catch alight.”

Fire Watch Commander Keith Hutton said the cause is still under invesigation.

“The building was fully alight on arrival which makes the investigation quite complex,” he said.

“There were no people in the building on arrival, however the resident was on site when the fire started.

“This fire appears to have evolved rapidly, which serves as a timely reminder to have your fire survival plans in place and rehearse them with your family.”
