Croc attacks Goat Island owner Kai

SHOCKING footage has been released of an outback publican taking on a crocodile with a frying pan at the Goat Island Lodge but the real culprit was lurking behind the scenes.

In the video, the 3.5m crocodile lunges at Goat Island Lodge owner Kai Hansen but things didn’t quite pan out for the reptilian beast.

The man referred to as ‘King Kai’ was quick to react, twice bopping his trusty frying pan on the croc’s nose.

The crocodile, Casey, was quick to turn tail and scuttle off back to the water leaving the fearless owner behind.

The video was put on Facebook by Airbourne Solutions Helicopter Tours and has already gathered plenty of attention from people inside and outside the Territory with over 1 million views.

Mr Hansen revealed to the NT News that the main culprit of the encounter was Fred, Casey’s growing son.

Fred has been encroaching on Casey’s spot and causing her to climb the riverbank closer to people.

In response, Mr Hansen has called on well-known croc wrangler Matt Wright to come in and take the belligerent male away.

“The problem is Fred, a young croc who I started feeding 15-16 years ago is now bigger than Casey,” Mr Hansen said.

“Casey is the important one around here, Fred is a pain in the backside. He is now bigger than her and will not let her come into her usual place.

“That means she has got to climb at a riverbank further up which is very close to where people walk in, so I’ve been standing guard so people can come in safely.

“Matt Wright is coming in and he’s going to take Fred away, and once that’s happened Casey can go back to her normal area which is in a totally safe and normal area.

“He’s been good entertainment over the years, but now he’s getting too aggressive.”

As for why the frying pan was the tool of choice for this dangerous encounter, well it was to remind Casey of a similar kitchen appliance used last time she got testy more than 15 years ago.

“I used to go down and feed Casey when she was much smaller,” Mr Hansen said.

“And then one day she decided to attack me and I used a frying pan to fight her off, and that’s why when these problems started I put a frying pan next to the stairs where people come in.

“It’s still sitting there because she may still remember the pain that I caused the first time.”

Mr Hansen has a storied history with crocs around his island with one previously eating his dog, Dumb Blonde, in 2018.
