Sometimes it’s not just the players who make an impact in the NRL NT, but the families behind them with one mum bringing herself to the centre of the action in the sport her family loves.

Sometimes it’s not just the players who make an impact in the NRL NT, but the families behind them with one mum bringing herself to the centre of the action of the sport her family loves.

Carissa Liddle is a proud mum of three footy loving boys Eddie, 9, Harry, 14, and Alex, 17, all who love pulling on the boots each week to represent their clubs.

Husband Rick Liddle is also heavily involved in the community serving as president of the NT Rugby League Referee’s Association.

That passion has spread to Ms Liddle who is the team manager for both her eldest son’s teams.

The role sees her coordinate match day logistics, communicate with families, support coaches and ensure both teams are organised on and off the field, an essential role many mums fill in the community.

This year she has stepped even further into the game taking up the role of NRL NT Referees Appointments Coordinator ensuring matches in the region are properly officiated.

And to go a step further she has completed her referees accreditation allowing her to step on to the field as a touch judge.

That was an achievement she managed for the first time on the weekend at Raiders Park officiating a match between the Palmerston Raiders and Nightcliff Dragons.

“I’ve always been on the sidelines cheering them on,” Liddle said.

“Now, I’m proud to be part of the game in a new way, helping make sure everyone players, refs, and spectators has a positive experience.

“Whether it’s running water, washing jerseys, managing teams or waving the flag on the touchline, every role matters, it’s all about showing up and being part of something bigger.”

NRL NT general manager Tony Crowe said Liddle’s journey was an example of how community sport in the Territory thrives through the work of everyday people giving their time and energy.
