A “once-in-a-generation opportunity” is coming to the Red Centre, and it’s a first in a prestigious art prize’s 100-year history, too.
The 2024 Archibald Prize exhibition is set to come to Alice Springs later this year, in what NT Arts Minister Jinson Charls said is “a once-in-a-generation opportunity”.
“We also hope it will encourage visitors to travel to the Red Centre to experience world-class art alongside the region’s rich cultural and natural wonders,” Mr Charls said.
From April 24 to June 15, 57 portraits from the exhibition will be on display at the Araluen Arts Centre.
The works include Laura Jones’ 2024 prize winning portrait of WA author Tim Winton, while two finalist from Central Australia, Adrian Jangala Robertson and Thea Anamara Perkins, will also have their displayed.
Further, the art centre is also set to host a Young Archie competition, with winners set to receive a $50 voucher for their work.
The competition is for young artist aged five to 18-year-old, and they are encouraged to submit a portrait of someone special to them.
Entries for the competition are now open, and close March 31.
Tickets to the Archibald exhibition in Alice are on sale now and can be brought online.
