The Darwin Cup Carnival continues to ramp up towards the big day with punters from far and wide making their way down for the celebrated Metric Mile Day.
The Metric Mile is the final chance for cup hopefuls to make the field for the Darwin Cup on August 4, and it’s also one for the punters to enjoy.
Many made their way to the Darwin Turf Club grandstand to compete for their shot at the Punter of the Year title and the $10,000 on the line for the winner.
Meanwhile, the lawns were filled with people enjoying their Saturday and another chance to dress up while watching the races.
Nicolle Rantanen Reynolds and David Reynolds head north from Adelaide every year for the Darwin Cup Carnival and the enjoyment it brings.
“We come every year, it’s wonderful to support horse racing in the Territory,” Ms Reynolds said.
“We have a few runners so I get especially excited for them and it’s always lovely to see lots of people here, they put on a wonderful event at the Darwin Turf Club.
“I love the atmosphere, the colour and the fact that it’s beautiful and warm up here and you get to dress up and wear a hat, and I love to pet the horses too.”
