MULTIPLE teens have been arrested following a series of car thefts throughout Darwin.

At around 12pm on Thursday July 28 Northern Territory police apprehended a white Toyota HiLux in Johnston believed to be involved in an unlawful entry in Berrimah.

Three males aged 15, 18 and 19 were arrested at the location.

The 19-year-old and 18-year-old were charged with driving offences ahead of a later court date.

Simultaneously, another patrol engaged in a short pursuit of a blue Toyota Landcruiser through Johnston, but ended the chase due to safety reasons.

Police found the vehicle abandoned in nearby mangroves on Rapid Creek Rd.

Strike Force Trident, Darwin Traffic Operations, the Dog Operation Unit and general duties were deployed and a cordon formed around the area as police attempted to find the driver and passengers.

Three males aged 13, 16 and 20 were discovered by patrol dogs Drax and Wedge and arrested by police.

The 20-year-old was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is expected to appear in court Friday.

The remaining two males, aged 16 and 17, were found by police in Jingili and were arrested without incident.

They were both charged with aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle and serious breach of bail. They were also expected to appear in court Friday.

Senior Sergeant Kaye Pemberton said the arrests were the result of “fantastic work from numerous branches of our agency working together”.

“The incredibly difficult terrain the patrol dogs and their handlers covered in order to locate these offenders is a testament to just how much of an asset they are,” she said.

“NT Police will continue to combat property crime in all its forms.”

AN ALLEGED fugitive running from police was threatened with the dogs after fleeing through a Darwin community garden.

NT Police have confirmed a 23-year-old man had been arrested after being spotted at a Jingili bottle-o at 3pm Wednesday.

Senior Sergeant Kaye Pemberton alleged there were multiple warrants out for the man’s arrest.

Sgt. Pemberton said police attempted to arrest him on Rothdale Rd, and the pursuit continued through Moil and Jingili “before it was terminated for safety reasons.”

“After stalling the vehicle he was driving, the man fled on foot,” she said.

The 23-year-old allegedly scaled several fences, hopping through gardens in a foot pursuit through Alawa.

Sgt. Pemberton said the dog squad used patrol dog Wedge who tracked him down to a community garden.

Police body cam recorded the final moments of the chase, where an officer ordered the man to stop and lay on the ground.

A NT Police officer was heard yelling “Stop where you are, or I’m going to send the dog”.

Sgt. Pemberton said the man surrendered to police without incident and was taken to Palmerston Watch House, where he allegedly tested positive for cannabis, methamphetamines and amphetamines.

He was later charged with breach of bail, unlicensed driving, drug driving, dangerous driving during a pursuit and drug possession.

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on Thursday.

Man charged for aggravated robbery that took place in June

NT Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in relation to a robbery that took place in Parap in early June.

On June 3, five men were alleged to have approached and assaulted a man on Drysdale St, before stealing his vehicle.

The victim received minor injuries.

The 23-year-old was arrested on Wednesday and was charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and criminal damage.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said investigations were ongoing to identify the other offenders.

“The stolen vehicle was recovered in Berrimah last month. Investigations remain ongoing to identify the other offenders,” Mr Cottier said.

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on Friday.

Police investigating Northern Suburbs robbery

NT Police are calling for information in relation to a robbery which took place at a Northern Suburbs home early on Tuesday morning.

At 12.40am police received reports a group of up to five youths had allegedly unlawfully entered a residence on Koolinda Cres in Karama.

Once inside it is alleged they assaulted a male occupant before stealing a number of small items.

The 48-year-old victim received minor injuries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland urged anyone with information of the offence to come forward.

“The offenders had their faces covered during the incident in what appears to have been a targeted attack,” Mr Bland said.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 131 444. Please quote 10070407. You can also anonymously contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

Youth arrested in relation to taxi theft

NT Police have arrested a youth in relation to an aggravated robbery which took place in Stuart Park late on Sunday night.

It is alleged a 16-year-old man allegedly entered a taxi on Knuckey St at 11pm.

A short time later the man allegedly threatened the driver with an edged weapon while they were travelling along Dinah Beach Rd.

The driver fled the vehicle and the alleged thief drove off in the taxi.

The vehicle was later sighted being driven dangerously at the intersection of Dick Ward and Fitzer Dr before it was abandoned on McMillans Rd.

Serious Crime detectives arrested the youth early on Monday morning.

He is expected to be charged with aggravated robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and serious breach of bail.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said it was fortunate nobody had been injured in the incident.

“This was a traumatic experience for the driver of the taxi and it was incredibly lucky no one was injured,” Mr Cottier said.

“Anyone who has information on these incidents, especially if you have dash cam footage, is urged to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 10069544.”

Knife-wielding teens allegedly hold-up servo

A service station worker has been held at knifepoint during an alleged late-night armed robbery in east Darwin.

Two teens have been arrested following the incident after they allegedly entered a Puma service station in Berrimah about 9pm on Wednesday wielding a knife.

Police said the two 14-year-olds allegedly threatened the worker with the knife before fleeing with thousands of dollars in cash, cigarettes, and tobacco.

Police were alerted to the incident by a witness who saw the youths running down Stuart Hwy.

Shortly after the offenders were found and arrested by the Coonawarra Harvey Norman and remain in police custody.

The pair – who have yet to be charged – are now assisting police with their inquiries.

Police are calling for any witnesses who may have information regarding the incident at the Puma service station or possess dashcam footage to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Drug charges after police search home

A MAN is facing multiple drug charges after police allegedly found cash and drugs in his home.

Detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Section executed a search warrant on an address in Stuart Park last week.

There they seized a trafficable quantity of Schedule 1 dangerous drugs, a large sum of cash and assorted Schedule 4 medicines.

Schedule 1 includes drugs such as heroin, methamphetamine, amphetamine, cocaine, ketamine, and methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).

Schedule 4 drugs are labelled ‘prescription only medicine’ and are only available from a pharmacist on prescription.

It’s not clear which drugs police allege the man had in the building.

The 36-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of supplying a trafficable quantity of a Schedule 1 dangerous drug, one count of possessing tainted property and a count of unauthorised possession of a Schedule 4 substance.

He was granted bail and will appear in court on October 10, 2022.

A second man was issued a Notice to Appear on lesser charges.
