A first of it’s kind event for the North Queensland Cowboys was held on Saturday night at Townsville’s Queensland Country Bank Stadium, with current and past players joining with the community in celebrating the past three decades.
The stadium grounds were transformed as hundreds dressed to impress for the 30th anniversary gala dinner, the first time the club has held an event on the stadium turf.
Dozens of past players were in attendance including Johnathan Thurston. Matty Bowen and Michael Morgan and Dallas Johnson as well as previous coaches such as Neil Henry.
Premier David Crisafulli was also in attendance.
Attendees were able to hear recollections from past players on pivotal moments for the club, including their first premiership win in 2015, as well as the formative years of the club.
Kerry Boustead, an instrumental part of the Cowboys introduction to the NRL spoke on the clubs early days, following the push from the community in for a North Queensland team in the competition.
The club also unveiled their 30 year team which included players such as Kyle Feldt, Gavin Cooper, Kane Linnett and Jason Taumalolo.
