A FRESH start for a family has ended in excruciating tragedy, as more details emerge in the aftermath of a horror-head on collision that claimed two lives on the Gore Highway.
The Chulliyaden family of five were travelling from Orange in New South Wales to Brisbane on Thursday.
Husband and wife Bipin Chulliyaden, 39, and Lotsy Jose, 35, were inside their Toyota Kluger along with three children Chris, 8, Caitlyn, 5, and Caiden Bipin, 2, when it collided head-on with a truck on the Gore Highway at Captains Mountain, west of Millmerran.
Tragically, Lotsy and Caitlyn died at the scene.
Bipin was initially trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut free by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews.
He was later transported by road to the Toowoomba Hospital with serious leg and abdominal injuries.
Chris and Caiden suffered critical head injuries and were flown to the Queensland Children’s Hospital by rescue chopper
A hospital spokeswoman said one of the boys remains in a critical condition while his brother’s condition has been upgraded to stable.
The 38-year-old male truck driver suffered a minor wrist injury.
Toowoomba Malayali Association president Paul Varghese and secretary Benny Mathew said when they were alerted to the crash, they contacted Millmerran police.
The pair later collected belongings from the scene to return to Bipin.
Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating the crash and have appealed for anyone with information about it to come forward.
This includes anyone who may have dashcam footage of either vehicle.
