A CBD site which has been home to five different bars and restaurants in the past decade is about to be given new life.
The restaurant area underneath Toowoomba Central Plaza Hotel at 532 Ruthven St will open in a few weeks under the name of Centro Bar and Restaurant.
Before being purchased and revamped, the site was run under the name Tom Collins Bar.
It abruptly shut last August after just 13 months of operating.
Tom Collins was the fifth business to open there since 2008, beginning with Swish and also including Campari's, Olive Branch and up-market restaurant Veraison.
But the venue's new owners are determined to make it a successful investment.
It was purchased by the same company which owns and operates Toowoomba Central Plaza Hotel.
It will operate as a bar, serve coffee and light meals and also operate as a kitchen for room service for the hotel.
With $40 million worth of developments happening on either side of Centro Bar and Restaurant, it's the ideal time to offer Toowoomba something new.
Drew Camm of DC commercial described the opening of the venue as another feather in Toowoomba's cap.
"It will provide guests of the hotel something extra. It will be just another reason to stay there," he said.
"It is also a fantastic spot, it will soon be the CBD's hotel precinct.
"The owners are spending a substantial amount of money on the refurbishment to freshen everything inside.
"They're really excited to not only provide food and drinks for their guests but also Toowoomba residents."
