Matildas’ captain Sam Kerr and her fiance Kristie Mewis have announced the arrival of their new baby boy.
On Instagram the couple, who live in London, each revealed on their own social media accounts the safe arrival of their son, Jagger Mewis-Kerr.
The pair shared an image of them cuddling their baby boy - wrapped in a blanket - both looking very happy with the new addition to their family.
It is the couple’s first child and Mewis was the carrier of the baby with the pair using IVF to fall pregnant.
Kerr, 31, and Mewis, 34, both play women’s football in the UK, Kerr plays for Chelsea while Mewis, until she fell pregnant, played for West Ham United.
They began dating during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and their relationship blossomed, with Mewis, who is American, moving from the US to the UK to be closer to Kerr.
Kerr has not played professional football since she tore her ACL during a training camp with Chelsea in January last year.
Last month Chelsea’s coach Sonia Bompastor said it was unclear when the star striker would make a return to the field.
Kerr, who identifies as Anglo-Indian, was recently embroiled in a court case in the UK after she was charged with one count of aggravated racial harassment of a British police officer after she called him “f---ing stupid and white” during a drunken night out in London two years ago.
Vision of the incident was captured on camera while Kerr and Mewis - who were out together on the night - were taken to Twickenham police station after having a dispute with a cab driver over the cost of a fare and after Kerr had vomited in the vehicle.
The seven-day court hearing returned a not guilty verdict and the Matildas allowed Kerr to keep her captain despite the controversy that erupted following the incident.
Both Kerr and Mewis gave testimony in the court hearing.
