Police have issued an urgent appeal to the public for dashcam footage as they work to figure out how long a three-year-old was allegedly inside her mum’s hot car.
Mum Laura Black, 37, and her new boyfriend Aaron Hill, 29, were charged with manslaughter after they allegedly failed to realise toddler Rylee Rose was locked in the car on a day when temperatures in Townsville hit 32C.
Rylee was rushed to Townsville University Hospital just before 3pm on Friday, after she was spotted slumped over in her booster seat in the back of Ms Black’s Toyota Prado.
She was unable to be saved.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Detective Senior Sergeant David Miles said investigators were hoping the public would be able to help them figure out if and when Rylee was removed from the car during the day.
It was previously believed Rylee might’ve been left in the car since 9am on Friday, when Ms Black dropped her three older daughters off at school, but police are investigating if this was the case.
“There may be an opportunity there to narrow down more confidently the timeframe and number of different routes the vehicle travelled over those times,” Det. Sen. Sergeant Miles said.
Det. Sen. Sergeant Miles said the police investigation was centring on the fact that Rylee was “in the motor vehicle on those particular occasions”.
Police will use dashcam footage, CCTV from shopping centres that the couple visited during the day and footage from transport cameras to figure out if Rylee was taken out of the car and put back in, Det. Sen. Sergeant Miles added.
Police do not want locals peeling through their dashcam footage and are instead asking any drivers that were in the specific areas at the listed times to give detectives a copy of their footage.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who travelled through the below locations and during the specified times last Friday to contact police.
• Between 6:30am – 7:40am - Beau Park Drive, Burdell to Inlet Retreat, Douglas (Route travelled, Bruce Highway Deeragun/ North shore Boulevard/ Shaw Road/ Ring Road)

Ms Black and Mr Hill were released on bail yesterday after spending the weekend behind bars.
In arguing for bail, Mr Hill’s lawyer said the allegation was “one of an unintentional act”.
The couple will live separately and will next face court on February 24.
Meanwhile, Aussies are rallying behind the heartbroken family, setting up a GoFundMe for Rylee’s “devoted and devastated” dad Pete and her three older sisters.
“Dear little Rylee Rose grew her angel wings on Friday. She leaves behind her loving, devoted and devastated father Pete and her three older sisters,” the GoFundMe read.
“No one should experience a loss like this. “We are seeking your support to help this loving family get through this tragic time. “Heartfelt thanks for your donation and words of comfort at this time.”
