Indonesia has assured Australia that Russia won’t get a military base in the region after Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles issued a statement.

Peter Dutton expressed alarm about the development today which the PM also responded to.

The news comes as Australia’s alternate deputy prime minister has compared the political pull of a female Labor MP to that of a chihuahua.

Meanwhile the Greens cancelled plans for a rave dance party fundraiser on Anzac Day following condemnation from the right and left of politics – but their leader Adam Bandt says he never knew about the event.
