A cunning car thief has used a tow truck to steal an orange Holden Commodore from a busy shopping centre car park in broad daylight without raising suspicion.
The incident, which took place this week at Browns Plains, was captured on CCTV and released by Queensland police to media today.
The footage shows the thief nonchalantly hitching the vehicle to the tow truck as if it were a routine operation in the midst of the bustling car park.
The suspect, wearing a simple T-shirt and shorts, worked quickly to hitch the Commodore before driving away.
The entire operation took under two minutes, leaving the vehicle’s owner to discover the car missing upon their return.
“Initial information indicates the Holden Commodore was stolen between 12pm and 1.40pm from the Browns Plains Road address. Investigations are ongoing,” Queensland police said in a statement.
Police are urging anyone with information about the theft or the whereabouts of the vehicle to come forward.
