HOT weather hampered firefighter's efforts bringing under control a large grass fire on the Western Downs on Saturday.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews received reports of the fire on Louisa and Edinburgh Sts about 11.55am.

Two QFES units each from Roma and Mitchell, as well as two Rural Fire Brigade units, responded to bring the fire under control.

The Western Downs Regional Council supplied a water tanker to help extinguish the fire which was brought under control and extinguished by 1.30pm.

Multiple QFES units were also deployed to another grassfire burning opposite a school north of Toowoomba.

Three fire crews brought a grassfire burning near a school under control today.

The fire broke out off the New England Hwy at Geham opposite the Geham State School just after noon Saturday.

Two Rural Fire Brigade crews and a Queensland Fire and Emergency Service unit responded and reported the fire had been extinguished by 12.50pm.
