A CHRONICLE letter writer has hit out at motorists for ignoring speed limits at road works.
Bert Ham from Newtown recently travelled to Brisbane and was amazed at the "stupidy" of a number of drivers who disregarded the speed limits at the numerous roadwork sites on the Warrego Hwy.
"Most of these sites are limited to 40 or 60kmh, obviously for safety reasons," Mr Ham writes.
"I could not believe the number of cars and trucks which over took me, as if I was standing still, in the road works areas, and I was on the limit.
"If people want to drive in a manner to kill or maim themselves, that is their business, but when they put me and my family in danger then that is my business.
"I hope the police, who are already over worked and underpaid, pay more attention to this flagrant dangerous practice and catch and penalise the offenders.
"It about time we all woke up and took more care on our roads, if not for your sake then for the sake of your families and innocent bystanders."
