DRIVING to catch up with a friend has cost a Toowoomba man more than $1000 in fines and taken him off the road for at least two years.
A police patrol had pulled over Aaron Charles Evans as he was driving on McGregor St, Wilsonton, on December 19, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard yesterday.
Police checks of the 29-year-old's driving record found he had been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver's licence for two months after appearing before the court on November 7, last year, police prosecutor Sergeant Mike Robinson told the court.
"He said he was driving to meet a friend," Sgt Robinson said.
The self-represented Evans pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified by a court and to failing to attend the police station within seven days of his arrest to give his identifying particulars as was directed by police.
Asked by Magistrate Graham Lee if he had anything to say to the matters, Evans replied politely "No".
Mr Lee convicted and fined him $1000 for the charge of driving while disqualified and disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver's licence for the mandatory minimum period of two years.
For contravening a police direction, Evans was fined a further $250 with no conviction recorded.
