Residents of a Top End suburb have been left reeling after multiple cars were tagged with spray paint at the weekend.
About lunchtime March 9, Millner resident James Keane uploaded eight photos to popular Facebook group ‘Darwin – Have a Whinge’, in which he shared that “almost every car” on his street, along with others, had been spray painted.
Based on the photos, it is understood at least one of the vandalisations occurred on Shoobridge St, located about 1.6km away from the Nightcliff Police Station.
The designs of the vandalism ranged from inappropriate sketches, to acronyms that read ‘BSG’ and ‘SPA’, to squiggly lines.
In his post, Mr Keane asked anyone who had security footage to come forward with it to help catch “whatever lowlifes did this”.
Group members were outraged at the incident, many sharing their disbelief in the comments.
“Oh my goodness … this is shocking. It’s the lost souls roaming throughout the nights, while hard working people pay tax”, said one commenter.
Another asked why they could not “just live in peace”.
Many disparaged the unknown perpetrators as “maggots” and “nutters”.
Among the angry Darwinites, there were also some good Samaritans who had either put their hands up to help remove the graffiti or offer solutions to the problem.
“Happy to have a go at getting it off for you if needed,” Matt Allwright, the owner of Get Buffed Automotive Detailing by Falconi, said.
NT Police have been sought for comment.
Sunday’s mass spree of vandalism is the second to happen in Darwin’s northern suburbs this year, after 10 cars in Nightcliff were left with smashed windscreens only metres away from the Nightcliff Police Station on February 4.
