VISITORS to the BCC cinemas in Grand Central can soon expect to be treated to the V-MAX experience, after Toowoomba Regional Council approved plans to add an additional theatre to the cinema.

According to a DA lodged with the council, the development will facilitate the expansion of the existing cinema to provide a large V-MAX theatre, lounge and service rooms.

The new theatre will be the sixth and largest for the cinema, providing a new lounge area, bar and kitchen, and stadium-style seating for 492 customers plus 12 wheelchair spaces.

The cinema extension proposed will cover part of the upper level car park, adjacent to Margaret St.

Talking to The Chronicle last year, a spokeswoman for QIC said the application was in line with the corporation's commitment to shoppers at Grand Central.

"The proposed expansion of the cinemas at Grand Central is another demonstration of our commitment to continually evolving the exceptional lifestyle, entertainment and retail offering at our centre," she said.

The development application was lodged on October 15, 2018 and was approved on Wednesday. The team at Grand Central was contacted for comment.
