Man rushed to Royal Darwin Hospital after Darwin CBD stabbing

A man was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after he was stabbed in the Darwin CBD. Read what first responders did to help him.

Emergency crews rushed a man to hospital overnight after he was stabbed with a broken glass bottle in the Darwin CBD.

The victim was first discovered as he made his way to Shenannigans on Mitchell St with a stab wound to his upper chest about 11pm on Thursday.

Security staff at the venue waved down a passing police vehicle to help.

Police helped with first aid before St John Ambulance took the man to Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition.

He is now in a stable condition.

A trail of blood was visible on Friday morning from outside the ANZ at the corner of Peel and Smith streets, tracking down towards the Mitchell St pub.

The trail stopped at Shadforth Lane.

Police CCTV cameras extensively cover that part of the CBD.

After speaking to witnesses and checking CCTV police found the man had been stabbed in the chest with a broken glass bottle outside the ANZ bank on Smith St.

Another man believed to be involved in the incident was arrested nearby shortly after.

He is expected to be charged with aggravated assault.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
