The man behind a gruesome alleged stabbing in west Cairns has been revealed.
Ryan blaze Keenan Arcus, 21, was mentioned in the Cairns Magistrate Court charged with the attempted murder of a man known to him at a Brinsmead address.
At 4.35pm Mr Arcus allegedly stabbed a 54-year-old man after getting into an altercation at the Tariga St home.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said investigations were ongoing but the pair were known to each other.
“The 54-year-old Brinsmead man was transported to Cairns Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery,” she said.
“Police took a 21-year-old Brinsmead man into custody at the address a short time later.
“Both men were known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.”
A spokesman for the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service said the injured man remains in a serious but stable condition in Cairns Hospital.
One witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said he walked past the address on Sunday night where huge amounts of blood covered a car.
“I was coming back from a friend’s place for dinner,” he said.
“There were three police cars and the whole road out the front was taped off and the police had to guide us around the other side of the road.
“There was a lot of clothes strewn in the gutter and there was a lot of blood on the car.”
The man said the area was a tightknit community and nothing like this had ever happened while he had lived there.
“I’ve never, ever, ever seen anything even close to it,” he said.
“It’s such a quiet street everybody kind of knows each other and looks out for each other.”
Mr Blaze did not appear in court in person or via video link but was represented by Lawyer Scott Osborne.
Mr Osborne told magistrat Sandra Pearson he was looking into mental health related issues.
The 21 year old has been remanded in custody until August 5 and police have been ordered to provide brief of evidence by July 28
