Emergency services wrap: Man in his 70s flown to Brisbane hospital after major fall from roof

Two men in their 70s were flown to a Brisbane hospital after suffering serious injuries in separate incidents. Full weekend wrap here.

Emergency services were kept busy overnight having responded to numerous traffic crashes across the wider Darling Downs region.

• Queensland Fire Department crews were called to an incident on the corner of McDougall and South Sts to reports a vehicle had entered flood water about 8.45am Sunday.

It’s understood a small amount of water has entered the footwell of the vehicle.

A QFD spokeswoman said the vehicle had driven into a small amount of water and, due to an electrical fault, the occupants couldn’t open the doors.

A swiftwater rescue team was able to remove the occupants from the vehicle and transport them back to land.

It’s understood the occupants were uninjured.

• A teenage boy was taken to Warwick Hospital in a stable condition after being involved in a single-vehicle crash at Canningvale.

It’s understood the vehicle had crashed into a fence on Canningvale Rd at around 11.15pm on Saturday.

Queensland Police spokeswoman said three other teenage passengers were uninjured.

• In the Toowoomba region, paramedics transported a male patient to Toowoomba Hospital in stable condition after a single-vehicle rollover on Drayton Wellcamp Rd in Glenvale before 11pm.

Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the male patient had suffered back and arm injuries.

• Queensland Police are continuing investigations into a single-vehicle crash into a tree on Long St in South Toowoomba around 9.20pm Saturday.

Queensland Ambulance paramedics treated three people, a 19 year-old driver and two 18-year-old male passengers.

A QAS spokesman said two of the male patients were taken to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

• At around 4.35pm on Friday emergency services were called to a terrifying heavy vehicle incident where a man was reportedly trapped by heavy machinery in Lowood.

A QAS spokeswoman said the male patient in his 60s was pinned for a short period of time and was able to be freed by a bystander before paramedics arrived.

It’s understood the man became trapped between some type of hydraulic gear on the rear of the truck after it had rolled on its side.

The QAS spokeswoman said the man suffered significant chest injuries and was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

• A Darling Downs man is lucky to be alive after he fell through a roof at a private property.

It’s understood the man in his 70s was working on the roof of a shed at the property in Quinalow when he fell six metres through the structure on Friday morning.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics checked the man for significant and potentially life-threatening head and chest injuries.

Paramedics took the man to a nearby sports field where a LifeFlight rescue helicopter was waiting.

The man was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

• Later that afternoon another man in his 70s was flown to the Princess Alexandra hospital after a vehicle towing a caravan jackknifed and landed in an embankment.

The QAS spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the incident off the Brisbane Valley Highway at Biarra, where they treated two patients.

A second unknown patient was taken to Ipswich Hospital by paramedics in a stable condition.

The man in his 70s, who reportedly suffered shoulder and chest pain was flown by LifeFlight’s rescue helicopter to the PA Hospital in a stable condition.

A Metro South Health spokeswoman said the man in his 70s and the man in his 60s remain in a critical but stable condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
