A MAN accused of stealing and dangerously driving a vehicle which eventually rolled near Warwick has been held in custody overnight.
Police claim the man stole a Ford Ranger from a Stanthorpe car dealership about 3pm yesterday before driving across the Carnarvon Bridge towards Wallangarra Road.
He is then accused of turning back across the bridge and heading north at speed along Maryland St while allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road before mounting a gutter and continuing east on Folkestone St.
Police followed as the Ford Ranger sped away north on the New England Highway towards Warwick prompting police to activate lights and siren and in effort to get the driver to stop.
However, the man failed to stop and continued on, allegedly crashing into another car on Rosehill Road a short time later.
No-one was injured in the collision.
The man is accused of then driving at speed before losing control while trying to take a corner and the car rolled.
The driver got out of the car and attempted to flee but was caught by police a short distance away.
He was initially taken to Warwick Hospital for an unrelated medical condition before being held in custody overnight.
A 21-year-old man from Marsden was charged with three counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle and one count each of evading police, failing to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash without giving particulars, and unlicensed driving.
He will appear before Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.
