NT Police have arrested a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a remote town before fleeing the scene.

NT Police have arrested a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in the bushland of a remote Territory town before fleeing the scene.

Police received reports a woman had been assaulted by a man known to her near Casey St in Tennant Creek on Tuesday evening.

The alleged offender fled the scene, while the woman was taken to Tennant Creek Hospital for treatment.

Detectives from the Tennant Creek Criminal Investigation Branch caught up with the man on Wednesday, when they made the arrest.

Police charged the 31-year-old with sexual intercourse without consent, acts intended to cause serious harm, threats to kill and possessing or using an offensive weapon at night.

He was remanded to appear at the Tennant Creek Local Court on Thursday.

Detective senior sergeant Michael Schumacher said cracking down on domestic and family violence remained a top priority.

“It has no place within our communities,” he said.

“NT Police are continuing to urge victims to reach out. If you have witnessed or experienced domestic or family violence, call the police on 131 444 or 000 in an emergency.

“If you or someone you know is experiencing difficulties as a result of domestic violence, other support services are available including 1800RESPECT (1800737732) or Lifeline 131 114.”

Alice Springs police probe empty house fire

Alice Springs police are calling for witnesses following a house fire in the town on Tuesday.

At 4:45pm, the joint emergency services communication centre was notified of an unoccupied residence in Mallam Crescent, Sadadeen that was on fire.

The property was fully ablaze when emergency services arrived.

Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service successfully extinguished the fire, and a crime scene was declared shortly after.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area around 4pm on Tuesday to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference 23344095.

Anonymous reports can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

In addition, Tennant Creek police on Tuesday arrested a 15-year-old male in relation to a burglary in Meyers Street.

Police received a report around 10am of intruders at the residence and the 15-year-old was arrested without incident.

Kids steal car from Alice Springs business

Police are searching for a car stolen from an Alice Springs business.

Southern Watch Commander Alistair Gall said the alleged offenders broke into a Ghan Rd business by jumping the fence about midnight Wednesday.

Sergeant Gall said the alleged offenders “used force” to get into the business’s office, where they found car keys and stole a work vehicle.

“The vehicle was then seen driving dangerously within Alice Springs with several youths on board and it hasn’t been seen since,” he said.

Sergeant Gall said the car’s registration was CD84KN and was last seen at 12.30am Thursday.

Two on the run after allegedly dumping stolen car

Two people remain on the run after they allegedly dumped a stolen car in Alice Springs.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Robert Griffiths said the blue Ford Everest was allegedly stolen from a Gillen home about 2.45am on Wednesday.

He said police tracked the car via drone and successfully deployed tyre spikes.

“At about 3.30am this morning, the vehicle’s movements were monitored whereupon the vehicle was dumped on Ida St, Gillen,” Sergeant Griffiths said.

Sergeant Griffiths said general duties members attended the scene and arrested three youths – aged 14, 15 and 15 – and believed two more people remained outstanding.

He said Strike Force Viper continued to investigate, with forensics teams to analyse both the car and the home it was stolen from.

In an unrelated incident, Sergeant Griffiths said a white Mitsubishi Magna had been stolen from an Alice Springs home.

He said the vehicle’s registration was 962499.

Sergeant Griffiths urged anyone with information relating to either incident to contact police.

Car’s GPS critical to recovering stolen car, arresting three kids

A car’s GPS tracker played an integral role in keeping Alice Springs road users from harm after three children allegedly took the stolen vehicle for a joy ride through the CBD.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Robert Griffiths said the kids – aged 12, 13, and 13 -allegedly stole the Toyota Troop Carrier from a Hartley St business at 5.10pm Monday.

Sergeant Griffiths said the car was tracked north of Alice Springs where police were deployed.

“The vehicle returned to the Alice Springs CBD and a short pursuit was engaged at low speed with initial compliance with the traffic rules,” he said.

Sergeant Griffiths said police successfully deployed tyre spikes but the driver allegedly continued travelling with one of the wheels on its rim.

He said the driver evaded a second tyre deflation device but got stuck on a concrete median strip.

Sergeant Griffiths said the boys were arrested by police and returned to the care of a responsible adult.

Man under police guard in hospital after car crash

A man who allegedly crashed a car with five people inside into multiple trees is under police guard at Alice Springs Hospital.

An NT Police spokesman said the 45-year-old man seriously injured his hip when he allegedly crashed the car on the Stuart Hwy in Ilyperenye about 3.30am Sunday.

The spokesman said it was understood one of the car’s five occupants was a young child.

In a separate incident, the spokesman said a 12-year-old boy allegedly used a stolen Toyota Prado to ram a security vehicle on Gregory Tce at 4.10am Sunday.

He said the security vehicle’s occupants were taken to Alice Springs Hospital with no visible injuries.

The spokesman said the boy also allegedly forced a police officer to “take evasive action” when the driver tried to ram the police vehicle.

He said the car allegedly collided with the rear of the police car, but did not injure officers.

The spokesman said the Prado was successfully tyre spiked in The Gap, where the boy was arrested.

He said police were urging anyone who witnessed either incident to contact police on 131 444.
