'Love triangle' stabbing back before the court

THE 33-year-old man is accused of stabbing his 36-year-old stepbrother during an argument over a woman.

The man is accused of stabbing his stepbrother at a Newtown residence.

A TOOWOOMBA man accused of stabbing his stepbrother during an argument arising from a suspicion that one brother had taken up with the other brother's ex-partner has had his case mentioned before Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Craig Ross Beauchamp, 33, was not required to be in court for the mention of his matters but was represented by solicitor Alysha Jacobsen of Bouchier Khan Lawyers.

Ms Jacobsen told the court she had received the police brief of evidence but asked for an adjournment so she could take further instructions from her client.

Police believe a perceived love triangle was behind a fight between the two brothers that ended with Beauchamp allegedly stabbing his brother during an altercation at a Newtown home in June.

It is alleged the older brother, 36, had gone to visit his nine month old daughter at the home of his ex partner on June 27 where he found Beauchamp had been living and an altercation broke out.

The court heard the complainant man had believed Beauchamp had formed a relationship with the woman while the complainant was away in prison.

However, that had been denied by Beauchamp and the woman concerned.

Beauchamp has not yet been required to enter a plea to the charge of grievous bodily harm.

He has been held in custody since his arrest on the matter.

Ms Jacobsen made no application for bail and Magistrate Kay Ryan remanded Beauchamp in custody and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on October 19.
