SEVENTEEN young doctors from around Queensland were in Toowoomba this week to learn the basics of anaesthetics.
The Rural Generalist Pathway's Anaesthetic Introductory Program, co-ordinated by Darling Downs Health's Queensland Rural Medical Service, was held from January 21 to 25.
Training adviser Dr James Telfer said skills in anaesthetics were a key competency for anyone embarking on a career as a rural generalist.
"The rural generalist trainees attending the workshop are entering a year of advanced skills training so this five-day workshop is aimed at giving them a solid grounding in anaesthetics," Dr Telfer said.
"As they prepare to continue their careers in rural and regional locations throughout Queensland we want to ensure they are ready to do so with confidence, so the program comprises various practical and cognitive components."
Townsville-based trainee doctor Brodie Norton said he was working towards a diploma in anaesthetics.
"As a future rural GP we live among the people we serve, so we need to have a broad set of abilities to make sure our patients get the best support," Mr Norton said.
