X Factor hits town

ASPIRING duos, rappers, soul divas and songwriters battled it out for a chance to impress at The X Factor auditions in Toowoomba today.

Hundreds of hopefuls spent hours lining up at The Burke and Wills Hotel, ready to sing their hearts out, as auditions for the reality singing show hit the city.

Although some people spent half the day waiting in line, the crowd was alive with entertainment with people singing, playing guitar and dancing to pass the time.

Reece Fitzgibbon was entertaining people around him, singing any song that came to mind.

"I'm playing for the crowds while I wait to see what people like before I decide what to play for the judges," he said.

Mr Fitzgibbon previously auditioned for the 2014 series.

"I auditioned but then my phone got disconnected a week before the call back for live auditions so I'll never know if I was going to be on that series or not," he said.

"I've been singing since I was seven and I love the freedom of it. I know there are a lot of talented artists so I just have to try my best."

Tim Entwistle was hoping to impress the judges with a ukulele version of Macklemore's Can't Hold Us.

"I'm here to give it my all and I'm preparing for the hip-hop genius to flow through me," he said.

"I want to make a difference in the world with my ukulele and hip-hop beats."

Series producer Digby Mitchell said he hoped to find someone with the x factor in Toowoomba.

"People who want to be on The X Factor will drive hours to audition but it's those people who are like 'maybe I should, maybe I shouldn't' who we want on this regional tour," he said.

"We're in our seventh season and we see a lot of the same people trying again and again. It's the diamonds in the rough that make the show special and they don't necessarily come to you. You've got to come to them."

Those who impressed in this round of auditions will make it to the second round.
