Joel Stephen Coggan: Coomera PT charged with underage sex, possessing child abuse material
The young man who worked at a series of gyms in the northern Gold Coast has faced court for the first time after he was charged with having sex with a minor and possessing child abuse material.

A young Gold Coast personal trainer has appeared in court for the first time charged with two offences, including having sex with a child.
Coomera man Joel Stephen Coggan, 25, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday for the first mention of the charges.
According to court documents, he is alleged to have had sexual intercourse with a child at Pacific Pines on a date unknown between March 1–July 1, 2023, and possessed child exploitation material at Coomera on January 10 this year.
Mr Coggan was charged by police on April 2.
It’s understood the alleged offences were uncovered by police during a search of his devices in relation to another matter.
Defence layer Michael Gatenby requested bail for his client on his own undertaking, which was granted.
The charges were adjourned to June 10.
Mr Coggan was employed as a personal trainer until recently.
It’s understood he worked across a series of gyms on the northern Gold Coast.
His blue card is currently suspended.
