A bit of friendly rivalry has been ignited between Townsville’s three MP’s, as the Crisafulli Government looks for the best of the best in the state across numerous categories.

Premier David Crisafulli announced earlier in the week that in the lead up to Queensland Day on June 6, the 166th anniversary of when Queensland separated from NSW, the government were looking for the standouts as part of their “All The Best” campaign.

With 15 titles up for claim including ‘best pie’, ‘best coffee’ and ‘best pub”, Townsville’s three MPs are urging locals to nominate their favourites as the best in Queensland.

Townsville’s three MP’s are backing each of their electorates, with Mundingburra MP Janelle Poole claiming Coffee Presto as her pick of the best cup of caffeine in Queensland.

Coffee Presto Managing Director Luke Guazzo said he was excited to know he had been chosen as a nominee for the ‘coffee’ category.

He said their regular, loyal customers were their best critics.

“They are the guys that make sure our coffee keeps coming out fantastic everyday.”

“We know that in Townsville and in the North we live in a beautiful part of the world and we have a lot to showcase,” Ms Poole said.

“[There is] a little bit of rivalry between the three electorates, I believe we have the best here in Mundingburra …”

“I am a little bit of a coffee connoisseur.”

Thuringowa MP Natalie Marr was hoping to champion Townsville in the “best event” category, noting events held along the iconic Riverway.

“India Fest, now in its 11th year at Riverway, is everything we love about Queensland, the colours, the food, so welcoming, and full of life,” Ms Marr said.

“We have a lot of great events throughout the city though, that’s just one I’m recognising because of its longevity.”

Townsville MP Adam Baillie has made it his mission to find the best pie in Townsville, having started off at Banjo’s in West End, a Tasmanian bakery chain.

He said it was a chance for Townsville businesses to have “their name up in lights and get the recognition that they deserve”.

“Get behind your local producers, your local suppliers, your local small businesses and put those nominations in and hopefully we’ll hold a few titles.”

The three MPs say in all seriousness, they want Townsville to claim as many titles as possible.
