Footage showing an argument between a member of the public and Federal Member for Groom Garth Hamilton has emerged from the first day of pre-polling in The Voice referendum in Toowoomba.
The video - which was sent to The Chronicle by Mr Hamilton - shows an elderly man swearing and yelling at the Groom MP in a heated debate over the referendum.
When Mr Hamilton tells the member of the public, whose identity is not known, to “have a good day” the man responds “I can’t have a good day mate – I’ve already had a bad day”.
“I’ve come in here to vote for something that is only a matter for First Australians and it’s bloody wrong,” the man said in the video.
In another video which The Chronicle has edited to remove the sensitive nature of some of the content, Mr Hamilton turned to the person recording and said “you put that (video) up and show the love that’s coming from these people.”
It is unclear how the altercation started.
