Inland rail workshop puts Transport Symposium on track

ABOUT 100 regional business leaders have gained an insight into the opportunities that will be created by the Melbourne-to-Brisbane Inland Rail project.

ABOUT 100 regional business leaders have gained an insight into the opportunities that will be created by the Melbourne-to-Brisbane Inland Rail project.

They were attending the first event of the Transport and Logistics Symposium, which is being held in Toowoomba this week.

The inland rail project is a key priority for the Federal Government, with $300 million already committed.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation has been appointed to get the project to "construction-ready" status, including the delivery of engineering design, approvals and early works.

Members of that corporation used this afternoon's workshop to brief suppliers on the opportunities that will become available as early field investigations start in Queensland.

This is the first in a series that will be held in regional areas throughout Queensland and New South Wales over the coming six months.

"We share information about the program, talk about the forward schedule of works and then work through the typical contracts and tender requirements," Australian Rail Track Corporation commercial manager Sam Cook said.

"It's aimed at helping to build capacity and to give regional suppliers every opportunity to participate in competitive tender processes."

The workshops are being delivered in partnership with the Industry Capability Network which is working with Australian Rail Track Corporation to help regional suppliers register their interest, share updates about upcoming tenders and to prepare compliant tenders.

The symposium will continue tomorrow with a number of events at the Armitage Centre.
