Iconic steak and rib house is returning to Toowoomba

A BELOVED rib and steak house is returning to the Garden City later this year - and the company is on the look-out for a local owner.

TOOWOOMBA will soon be home to a rib and steak house with Lone Star Rib House opening in the Garden City.

Lone Star is expected to open at Grand Central Shopping Centre this October offering a United Tastes of America themed menu with slow cooked ribs, steaks, burgers and a little bit of Tex Mex.

It will open in the centre's Dining Quarter next to Yum Cha.

Lone Star Rib House CEO Paul Piert said he was excited to open a restaurant in Toowoomba.

"We think locals are going to love our Lone Star Rib House and Brews concept with all-you-can-eat ribs and wings, and an extensive offering of craft beers, tap wines and our Moonshine cocktail range," he said.

There will be 50 jobs on offer and Mr Piert said he was still on the lookout for a franchisee.

"We are a franchise-based operation so we will open as a company store if a franchisee isn't found beforehand," he said.

"But ideally we will find someone local who wants to take it up."

Mr Piert said he anticipated residents would lap up the tasty food on offer and enjoy the nostalgia of the free peanuts at the door which Lone Star is so well loved and remembered for.

Toowoomba was home to a Lone Star many years ago, with the popular restaurant located on the corner of James and West Sts.

People will remember the restaurant for its amazing steak, being able to throw peanut shells on the ground (which you will still be able to do at the new site), and its kids eat free days.

There are more than 20 Lone Star Rib House restaurants across the country.
