This weekend thousands of people are expected to take to the Toowoomba Grammar School Art Show to buy or admire some incredible Australian art.
The exhibition features more than 650 artworks created by more than 250 Australian artists, and is not only a major fundraiser for the school but also an incredible community event.
Some of the artists include Laura Crane, Joanna Davies, Aiden Weichard, and David Hinchcliffe.
Art Show Committee President Jodie Humphreys said there is no other event quite like this in Toowoomba and it is not just a school event but something for anyone in the community.
“There’s a huge variety of art and we like to try and have something for everyone,” she said.
“We would love to see people coming from the community.”
Ms Humphreys said another exciting part of the exhibition is the Under Wraps project, where all of the artists anonymously paint on a small A5 card and each is sold for $30.
The project aims to offer affordable and unique art pieces for sale and all proceeds go to Yalari, an organisation that funds scholarships for Indigenous students at schools across the country, including Toowoomba Grammar.
“So the idea behind it is if they don’t have their names on it, so you don’t know who you buy and you just buy what you love,” Ms Humphreys said.
The prices of the other artwork is decided by the artists and Toowoomba Grammar takes a 25 per cent commission, some of which gets donated to local charities or projects around the school.
The opening night is on Friday March 28 and the show is open from 9.30am to 7pm on Saturday March 29 and 9.30 to 4pm on Sunday March 30.
It is $5 entry and kid enter for free.
