Sugar highs, jumping castles and too much cake is how most kids choose to celebrate their seventh birthday, but Hugh Jensen is one of a kind.
The sweet-natured and energetic lad has instead decided to spend his big day this Saturday, walking the Scenic Circuit at the Bunya Mountains, as part of the Choice Passion Life (CPL) Trek Challenge.
Little Hugh who loves to go bushwalking and knows just about every species of trees, will complete the 4km trek alongside his family and friends.
“Hugh just has this really warm, beautiful energy and he just charms everyone – we really celebrate the person he is,” mum Michelle Jensen said.
“He might not be as agile or able as his peers, but he always has a go and that’s his spark.”
After he was born with a rare genetic deletion in the sixth chromosome and received his diagnosis at just 15-months-old, Hugh joined CPL and has been receiving assistance in occupational, speech and physiotherapy ever since.
Now in a kind gesture, he hopes to raise as many funds as possible for the profit-for-purpose organisation, which supports more than 5000 people living with disabilities.
Hugh is also fascinated by flags and plans to put one at the top of the mountain, once he completes his mighty trek.
