Hopefully plans for training academy take off in Toowoomba

FINGERS crossed Toowoomba is chosen as the location for the Qantas training academy.

FINGERS crossed Toowoomba is chosen as the location for the Qantas training academy.

There is no denying it would be a huge coup for the region.

Last week, Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise CEO Ali Davenport spoke of the $14 million the students could bring into the region.

Yesterday Minister for State Development Cameron Dick visited Wellcamp Airport to detail the proposal, along with John Wagner and Mayor Paul Antonio.

If we're going to see the $600 million boost Mr Wagner spoke about, we need our whole city behind this great proposal.

And the benefits will not be confined to Toowoomba.

The use of airports like Millmerran and Kingaroy are a great way to see more traffic in and out of these destinations.

Besides, what young pilot wouldn't want to train in this beautiful city?

That's combined with Wellcamp itself, which has 315 clear flying days and uncongested airspace.

Toowoomba ticks all the boxes for a facility like this.

So forget about the other Australian cities, Qantas: bring your training academy to the Garden City.
