AN HISTORIC Harristown home has been listed on the market for $1.6 million.

Secluded behind a dense treeline, the historic "Hamewith" residence at 24-36 Drayton Road was built circa 1899.

The home was designed by James Marks for Arthur Beelbee, a merchant and agent in Toowoomba City.

Originally known as "Montecute", the house was bought in 1916 by Dr David Horn, and in 1952 was sold to the Endeavour Foundation as a home for their work.

While owned by the charity, several outbuildings were added to the 1.35ha grounds.

The residence is listed as a local heritage place on the Toowoomba Regional Planning Scheme, but not on the State Heritage Register.

The property is being billed as having potential as either a huge, private family estate, or for a developer wanting a large parcel of land for aged care or medical purposes.
