Successfully navigating its way through challenging construction conditions, the Hilton Garden Inn Townsville project is full steam ahead with Hilton officially announcing the hotel’s addition to its portfolio on Wednesday.
Under a management agreement with HHNQ Pty Ltd, Hilton will manage the $60 million hotel, which will begin construction next to Queensland Country Bank Stadium in mid-June.
Due to be completed by early 2026, the hotel will feature 190 guest rooms, a restaurant and bar, meeting rooms, a fully equipped gym and a swimming pool.
Speaking from the Asia Pacific Hotel Industry Conference and Exhibition in Adelaide, Hilton Director of Development Australasia Tushar Raniga said it brought them great joy to collaborate with HHNQ and introduce Hilton Garden Inn to Townsville.
“The hotel will include modular construction, which is a great way to reduce construction times and lower building costs,” Mr Raniga said.
“The Hilton Garden Inn brand is experiencing swift expansion throughout Australasia, boasting three operational hotels and an additional six in the pipeline that will triple our presence over the next five years.”
After a challenging couple of years overcoming obstacles like the pandemic, HHNQ director Michael Graham was delighted to begin delivering Townsville’s first Hilton branded hotel.
He said rising construction costs had played a part in the project’s delay, where construction had previously been expected to begin before the end of 2023.
It prompted a shift to Townsville-based CES Constructions earlier this year with the project team recently returning from a modular fact finding mission in China.
“With construction costs continuing to place pressure on projects in the region, we have taken a position to support the global trend in modular construction and will be working with a major international manufacturer to deliver all hotel rooms,” Mr Graham said.
“The city of Townsville has undergone significant growth since 2020 and is steadily becoming an economic powerhouse supported by a favourable tropical climate and a renewed interest in regional tourism.
“We know Hilton Garden Inn will be a major asset for the city and one which both locals and visitors can expect reliable, friendly stays and top-tier hospitality from.”
Hilton is a leading global hospitality company with a portfolio of 23 world-class brands.
Its Hilton Garden Inn brand provides “business and leisure guests upscale, affordable accommodations and modern amenities for an experience that is simply on another level” with more than 1000 hotels in 62 countries and territories around the world.
