CUSTOMERS are ignoring Zimms Corner in favour of big-chain service stations while renovations are under way.

That's what owner Olga Marr says and she's pleading with motorists to not forget the long-standing service station.

A redevelopment is taking place at the Warrego Hwy service station west of Toowoomba near the Kingsthorpe turnoff.

The old shop has been removed and workers are building a new structure.

The result will be a new cafe and shop, complete with electric car recharging stations.

"We want to make it really up-market so that people want to come, sit down and plug their phone in and spend a bit of time there," Ms Marr said.

The revamped servo will also have showers, toilets and parking for trucks.

Ms Marr said ongoing roadworks on Kingsthorpe-Haden Rd compounded the problem.

Motorists are avoiding the works by travelling through Gowrie Junction and south towards the highway.

"We're finding it difficult in our trading. The money is not coming in."

She said supporting local business was important as the servo was staffed by locals.

"Everyone is going to the Caltex and BP. They're ignoring us," she said.

Ms Marr said she was excited about the redevelopment which is expected to take about three months.

"In the meantime we need people to frequent the store so at least we can pay wages.

"All our workers live around here."
