Lockdown in South East Queensland may have lifted on Sunday afternoon, but many restrictions remain that may affect the Darling Downs.

With community sport not permitted for the next fortnight, teams from the region, who were scheduled to face off against Brisbane and Gold Coast opposition, will now be placing their seasons on hold.

Teams impacted include The Toowoomba Mountaineers (basketball), Darling Downs Panthers (netball), South West Queensland Thunder (soccer) and Downs Dingoes (cricket).

Gatton Hawks will effectively be ruled out for the remainder of the Toowoomba Rugby League season.

Toowoomba police were also out in force on the weekend, patrolling the safe-night precinct.

On Sunday afternoon, a spokesman from QPS said no Covid breaches had been recorded in Toowoomba.

Queensland had recorded nine new cases of Covid-19 within a 24 hour time frame on Sunday, with seven linked to the South East Queensland Delta cluster.

Two other cases were detected, one of which occurred on the Gold Coast and is under investigation.

The other case in Cairns involves a taxi driver, who has been infectious in the community for 10 days.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said 26,286 tests had been conducted and over one million vaccines had been supplied.

“Queensland has done a mighty job, but we’re not out of the woods yet,” she said.

‘This strain is sweeping the world, so we need to make sure we are taking extra precautions.

Schools in South East Queensland will reopen today, but all staff and students are required to wear masks.

For the 11 LGAs affected, the general public will also be required to wear masks, unless walking by themselves.
