The search for a man who went missing on the Gold Coast on Tuesday has come to a tragic conclusion.
Emergency services launched a massive search operation after 84-year-old Warren Bartley failed to return home after having lunch at the Emerald Lakes Golf Club on Alabaster Drive at Carrara.
Relatives had gone to the club to collect him, however when they arrived he was nowhere to be seen. It is believed his mobile phone battery had also gone flat.
Police began their search effort that evening after his family were unable to find him.
It is believed Mr Bartley left the club on foot. CCTV footage showed him at the intersection of Boulton Dr and Nerang Broadbeach Rd, Nerang at 3.33pm on Tuesday, several hours after he went missing.
Across Wednesday and Thursday a massive search operation took place involving police and SES crews. Surf Life Saving volunteers joined the operation using jet skis to patrol the Nerang river, while Queensland Fire Department drones surveyed the area and the police Polair helicopter circled from above broadcasting the missing person alert.
On Thursday afternoon the search effort sadly resulted in a tragic outcome, with Mr Bartley located deceased.
“The 84-year-old man reported missing from Carrara on December 17 has been located deceased following an extensive search,” a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said.
“The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and police will prepare a report for the coroner.”
