Three men charged after an alleged road rage incident resulted in a man being taken to hospital will have their matter go to trial in the District Court.

Waka Eddie Taukiri, 21, Logan Moana, 22 and Cody Paul Vance Moana, 37, have been each charged with one count of unlawfully wound another, one count of assault while in company and one count of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst in company.

Cody and Logan Moana are also each facing another count of assault occasioning bodily harm relating to a different alleged victim.

It was alleged last year an altercation broke out on Steves Way, Coomera after an MG and a Mazda pulled over after a road rage incident on the evening of June 28, 2024.

It was reported a 28-year-old Nerang man from the MG suffered non-life threatening facial injuries and was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

The accused trio were arrested by police on the same night.

The Nerang man, two other men and a woman were cross examined at the committal hearing at Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The court heard the four witnesses had all been in the same vehicle prior to the alleged assault with the woman driving the car.

All witnesses alleged the car they were in had been driving to the bottle shop at the Coomera Boathouse Tavern and at one point when driving back to the woman’s house, they were cut off by another car.

They also alleged the female driver of their car pulled over with the other vehicle stopping at a unspecified distance behind them.

The female driver told the court she was instructed by her partner to pull over further down the street so the other car wouldn’t know where she lived.

It was after the car was parked and one of the male witnesses exited the car that the alleged assault took place.

The court heard that one of the male witnesses told police on the night it looked like his 28-year-old cousin had been stabbed.

Logan Moana’s barrister Tracy Thorp asked the man if he said that to anyone in the hospital as well.

“Not that I can really recall,” he said “But a wound like that, what else would it be?”

The man taken to hospital as a result of the alleged incident also told the court he couldn’t remember anything after being allegedly attacked.

“The last thing I remember after that happened was hearing my cousin yelling out I had been stabbed, and just blood flowing down my face and going everywhere,” he told the court.

All of the witnesses told the court they had not seen a knife at any point during the incident.

Following the cross-examination, Magistrate Jane Bentley committed the accused trio to trial in the Southport District Court on a date yet to be determined.

All three men have had their bail enlarged.

The court heard Cody Moana also has been charged with driving over the general alcohol limit .

That charge is still before the Magistrates Court.
