Gold Coast police say they are investigating after videos emerged of two young men leaping between buildings at Surfers Paradise on Tuesday while a third man on the roof watches on.
The videos, which did the rounds on social media, appear to depict the trio on the roof of a shorter section of The Sands Apartments, on the Surfers Paradise Esplanade, as two of them make a number of dummy runs, before finally leaping across onto the roof of St Tropez Apartments.
Initially, only two men are on The Sands roof, while a third watches on from a nearby balcony, but it appeared the third man later joined his two friends on the roof.
At one point, two of the men take a large run up before leaping across the chasm, making it across to St Tropez with a jump and roll manoeuvre.
Witnesses took to social media to pan the behaviour.
“I watched painfully for ages thinking one might miss,” said one woman.
Another said: “The boys just kept running across the buildings, preparing to make the jumps and eventually did several times. Then they just took off.”
Others labelled them “idiots” and “dumb and dumber”.
It appeared from the video time stamps the conduct occurred at about 3.30pm Tuesday.
In a statement, Queensland Police said they were contacted about 3.50pm and attended an address at Orchid Ave (which runs parallel to the Esplanade on the other side of The Sands) in response to a “welfare check”.
“Initial information provided to police was that two people were observed jumping between buildings,” the statement read.
“Officers attended the scene and conducted a search, but those involved had left the scene.
“Police urge anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the individuals involved, to come forward.”
The Sands was contacted for comment, but both telephone calls rang out.
