Shaun James Smoothy: Cressbrook Creek man fronts Gold Coast court over alleged murder
A 45-year-old man charged with the murder of a missing 48-year-old has also been charged with dismembering a corpse.
A Cressbrook Creek man accused of murdering missing 48-year-old Paul Woods has also been charged with one count of misconduct with a corpse by interfering.
Shaun James Smoothy, 45, fronted Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with one count of murder.
Court documents reveal Smoothy has been charged with allegedly murdering Paul Woods on or about October 5.
The charge comes following police investigations into the suspicious disappearance of the 48-year-old Hampton man.
Police have told media Paul Woods’ out of character disappearance was first reported to police on October 14, with officers from the Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) establishing Operation Xray Letter on Friday.
Crime scenes have been established at a property in Hampton and a property in Cressbrook Creek where forensic examinations continue.
In court, Smoothy’s duty lawyer made no application for bail.
Magistrate Joan White adjourned the matter for a mention on November 18 at the Toowoomba Magistrates Court where he will appear via video link.
Court documents reveal Mr Smoothy has also been charged with dismembering a corpse on or about October 5 at a Cressbrook Creek property.
The charge has not yet been heard in court.
Detectives from the Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch and Homicide Investigation Unit charged Smoothy in Southport on Monday following investigations.
As investigations continue, detectives have released an image of a motorcycle that is yet to be located as they continue to appeal for information on Mr Woods.
Mr Woods is believed to have been last seen riding an unregistered blue and white Yamaha 450 motorbike on the afternoon of October 5, between the Hampton and Cressbrook Creek area.
Police are urging anyone with relevant CCTV footage or dashcam of the motorbike in the Hampton, Crows Nest and Cressbrook Creek area between October 5-6, to contact police.
