Rick Shores operators open new venue Norte at Mermaind Beach impresses Elvis VIPs Weiss

The Rick Shores team on the Gold Coast - who helped get Baz Luhrmann to film blockbuster Elvis on the Glitter Strip - are impressing movie bigwigs all over again. Find out how

The team behind Burleigh Heads’ famous Rick Shores have launched a new venue - again impressing film industry bigwigs who decided to bring Elvis here based on Rick’s bug rolls.

Famed director Baz Luhrmann’s right-hand man Schuyler Weiss - who joined him at Rick Shores on the Gold Coast for bug rolls to clinch the decision to film Elvis on the Glitter Strip - has been a guest of honour at the Rick’s operators’ new venue Norte up the road

Mr Weiss said the opening night was a hit - and he expected nothing less.

“You would expect a new restaurant from the team behind the iconic Rick Shores to be nothing short of excellent, but Norté takes it to a new level,” he said.

“The space is clever, creating a lively room full of intimate nooks and layers, the service is impeccable and the food is not only exceptional, but also offers diners on the GC a whole New Latin culinary world to explore.

“I’m sure Norté and Sueño [Rick Shores’ second new venue] are going to be a big hit with Nobby’s locals, like me, and our international visitors. After all, it was a meal at Rick Shores on day one more than five years ago that had the Bazmark team totally hooked on Gold Coast life.”

Mr Weiss said there was a lot of excitement about the direction the film industry in the Gold Coast was heading.

“The movie business on the Gold Coast keeps going from strength to strength and 2025 will be no exception,” he said.

“I’m excited for a new slate of Australian and Hollywood productions shooting in the city, and also new, world-leading facilities starting to take shape in both Yatala and Miami.

“It’s a great time to be a Gold Coaster.”
